Hal Sawyer

The original intent of the gallery was to showcase the paintings, pastels, drawings and calligraphy of Hal Sawyer together with the photography of Andy Sawyer. This catalogue has been subsequently supplemented with the work of local artists based in Cumbria and it is the intention to expand this area over time. The gallery has been further enhanced by the addition of a selection of limited edition collectable prints from published artists in keeping with the mood of the gallery.

When the local picture framer who had framed a number of Hal and Andy Sawyer's pieces retired a few years ago, the gallery took on this function as well and can offer a limited framing service.

Artists

Hal Sawyer (1920 - 1983), sculptor, artist, and calligrapher was born in the North West of England. He had a lifelong love for the Lake District, especially the area around Wastwater. The subjects of his calligraphy reflect his feeling for the countryside, especially in its wilder aspects.
